GETTING AROUND
For convenience, we recommend our guests reach the apartment by car. Public transportation is less convenient, although there is the ASF C10 bus line that connects Como to Menaggio. From the center of Menaggio, guests need to change buses to reach the area where the apartment is located – ASF C14 line. In Menaggio, you will also find a dock from where local ferries will take you to Como, Bellagio, Varenna, and other towns on the lake. Please note that during peak season, there may be long lines at the ticket office. Tickets can also be purchased online on the Navigazione Laghi website. There is also a car ferry available. From the Como San Giovanni station, regular trains depart for Milan Central and Switzerland (Lugano, Bellinzona, Locarno). From Como Nord Lago, there is a rail connection to Milan Cadorna. The nearest airports are Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, and Orio al Serio in Bergamo. A direct shuttle service to and from the airport can be arranged for an additional fee. For further questions regarding transportation, do not hesitate to contact us: we will be happy to assist you and ensure you reach your preferred destination!
TIPS
We recommend spending a day visiting the wonderful towns around the lake. Como city is the urban center of the area, but the smaller towns are gems with splendid lakeside villas. Comfortable shoes are essential for exploring and walking around Lake Como, especially in the small towns. There are many public fountains with drinking water in the area, and the water is safe to drink unless stated otherwise. Tap water is also potable. Feel free to bring your reusable water bottle! For those looking for a relatively easy hike with great mountain views, the Greenway del Lago di Como is an easy-to-follow trail that connects lake towns from Colonno to Griante and does not involve significant climbs. A bus can take you to the starting point in Colonno. Seek out traditional restaurants where you can taste local dishes, including those featuring fish from Lake Como. In Italy, many shops (especially small ones) and services close during midday, so plan your shopping accordingly. Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the deepest in Italy. Swimming and diving are prohibited in many areas and can be dangerous. However, for those who wish to take a dip, there are some options. There is a lido in Menaggio. Locals and visitors also enjoy going to Nesso, where braver swimmers can dive into the lake from the ancient Roman bridge near the waterfall. The Lido of Bellagio and the pebbly beach of San Giovanni await those who wish to travel and explore the beautiful town of Bellagio, situated at the junction of the two branches of the lake. The lake is in a mountainous region. The surrounding Prealps may not seem very high, but the climate is still influenced by the nearby mountains, and temperatures can change rapidly. Pay attention to weather conditions when hiking and bring warm, waterproof clothing!
